Rizwan is the first batsman in the history of Twenty20 games to score 2000 runs in a single year. As a right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper in international Tests, ODIs, and T20s, he has scored hundreds of runs. During Test games, he stands in for the Pakistan cricket team as the vice captain. He was named one of the 2021 Wisden Cricketer of the Year candidates. Mohammad Rizwan scored 1326 runs in 26 innings, averaging 73.66 and setting a new record for T20 Internationals.
In 2016 and 2017, he played for the Lahore in the PSL. He played for the Karachi Kings from 2018 to 2020 before becoming captain of the Multan Sultans. He leads Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when they play cricket at home.
Rizwan helped Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited win the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy for the second time in the 2014–2015 season. He scored 224 runs, which gave his team a 301-run lead after the first inning.
In April 2018, when the selection process for the Pakistan Cup was over, he was chosen as the Punjab team’s vice-captain. Shan Masood stepped down as captain of the Multan Sultans in February 2021, and Rizwan took his place. This was done to get ready for the next PSL 6 season.
In June 2021, he was named the PSL wicketkeeper of the year after helping Multan Sultans win their first championship.
He joined Sussex in the winter of 2021 so that he could play in the 2022 County Championship and Twenty20.
While playing for the Multan Sultans against the Karachi Kings in PSL 8 in February 2023, he got his second T20 century and his first PSL century. He scored 110 runs without being out in 64 balls.
Rizwan’s first ODI game was in April 2015 against Bangladesh. He hit 67 runs on 58 balls. During the same series, he played his first Twenty20 International game for Pakistan. In a Test match against New Zealand on November 25, 2016, he played for the first time for Pakistan. In his first Test match, he was run out and scored 0 runs.
As of August 2018, he is one of 33 athletes who have a central contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board for the 2018–19 season (PCB). He was the captain of Pakistan and led the team to victory in the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Pakistan made it to the semifinals. In March 2019, Rizwan’s first ODI hundred came in the second game against Australia. In all, he got 115 runs.
In November 2019, when Pakistan played Sri Lanka, Rizwan made his way back into the team. In the same month, he was chosen to play in the First Test against Australia. There was a lot of debate about whether or not he was run out by a no-ball. He got 95 runs in the bottom of the second inning.
He was one of 29 people from Pakistan who went to England during the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in June 2020. On June 23, 2020, it was found that Rizwan was one of seven Pakistani team members who had tested positive for COVID-19. Because of this, he was chosen to be part of Pakistan’s twenty-person team for the Test matches against England in July. With 161 runs and two half-centuries in the Test series, he did better than the returning former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and became the best wicketkeeper for those games. After the Test series was over, he was named Pakistan’s Most Valuable Player.
Pakistan’s first Test match, against New Zealand in December 2020, will be led by Rizwan. He took over for Babar Azam, who had to leave the game because he was hurt. He was also picked for Pakistan’s Twenty20 International team, which will play New Zealand on the same tour as the ODI team. Rizwan got his best Twenty20 International (T20I) score of 89 in the third game of the series against New Zealand. This kept Pakistan from being swept by the Kiwis.
In February 2021, during a series between Pakistan and South Africa, Rizwan got his first Test century with a score of 115. In the end, he was named the most valuable player in the series. In the third Twenty20 International between Pakistan and South Africa in April 2021, he and Babar Azam made a 197-run partnership on the first wicket, which was the most runs ever made by a pair on any wicket for Pakistan. It was also the chasers’ partnership with the most wickets in Twenty20 International history. In September 2021, it was confirmed that he will play for Pakistan in the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In December 2021, Rizwan scored 2,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket in the third game of a series against the West Indies. In September 2022, Rizwan and Babar played a Twenty20 cricket match together. Together, they scored 203 runs.
